This probably won't draw much attention, but one kid stood out in the
Sullivan Games this year. It wasn't about him dunking the ball,
draining 3's or his athleticism. It was about the way he approached the
event and the seriousness he approached his future with.
William Robinson form Pathways College Prepatory in Queens walked
around with a stack of envelops. He went up to everyone
including me and another coach who were high school guys and politely
butted in and said, "Excuse me gentlemen. My name is William Robinson
and I'm trying to get an opportunity for a scholarship. I will be
playing on court number $# next game and would like for you to come and
see me play. I have a copy of my transcript and I am graduating in June
2014 and I am done with my Regents. I am taking the SAT again and I
really think I can help your program". I hated to drop the bomb on him
but I said, "we are just high school coaches". He said, "I understand.
Can you introduce me to some coaches or possibly pass my transcript
along? I would appreciate it".
I didn't get to see the kid play, but all coaches in the SUNY and D3
area, make it your business to seek this kid and at least see what he
has to offer. I was shocked at the distinguished way he handled himself
and his business. He's a product of Harold Peaks and I must say good
job Peaks the boy has shined a light on his program and his family. A
burst of fresh air from the scrubs crying about playing time on the
bench for the teams I coached.
Well as the season goes, please provide more info on this kid.
