Lincoln vs All Hallows Recap

The Lincoln Railsplitters sought to get back in the winning column against thw All Hallows Gaels of the Bronx, NY. 60-56.

Both teams looked to push the rock upcourt with All Hallows looking to overload Lincoln defense which worked early as the Gaels pulled out in front as Mike Alvarado attacked the paint. Late in the quarter, Alvardo put All Hallows up 10-6 as the Railsplitters were slow to heat up. That is until Raymond Oloughlin and Rubin King got hot gave Lincoln their first lead. Shaquille Stokes extended the Lincoln lead to 16-13 going into the second quarter.

Omar Kellman tied the game at 16 with a strong move in the paint and Alvardo regained the lead for the Gaels. The Railsplitters were up against a Gaels squad who had just come off a loss to st. Rays and did not want to lose two staight. Up 29-18 with 3:21, the Gaels were successful at limiting the Railsplitters looks at good shots. Devonte Brown finally scored for Lincoln a the 2:13 mark ending a 14-2 run. Up by as much as 12 points, Lincoln would be in a 34-24 hole as the third quarter began.

The Railsplitters first half gave the Gaels confidence to start the second. Stokes tried to jumpstart Lincoln's offense but was off the mark early. Coach Dwayne Morton tried various rotations as well but with 5:08, Lincoln was still down 38-27. Stokes finally hit a runner to cut the Gaels lead to 7. Solid defense along with a superior frontcourt pushed All Hallows lead to 43-33 with 1:30 in the third as Kellman dominated inside. A 7-1 Lincoln in the final minute pulled the Brooklyn school to within 5 points but they would still need a impressive showing in the money quarter.

Lincoln pressed the action, looking for the Gaels to crack. An All Hallows turnover with 5:53 gave Lincoln signs of hope. Still down 48-43, Oloughlin suddenly pulled Lincoln to within 2 points with a three from the top of the key. The Railsplitters also contested Alvarado shots and trapped the Gaels bigs. Down a point, with 4:41, Lincoln could smell the lead. Another Oloughlin three and the Railsplitters were up by 2 points. Alvarado briefly tied the game at 51 but the momentum had shifted to Brooklyn.

The Railsplitters would extend their lead to 3 points as All Hallows lost their first half swagger. Lincoln also go backcourt production from Micheal White who cleaned up the glass. 2:39 remained and Lincoln was still up 55-53 but an Alvarado steal off Oloughlin tied the game again. Alvarado was relentless in his attempts to penetrate but was 50% in his conversions.

1:58 was left in the contest and again the score was all even at 56 apiece. Stokes would drive and get fouled on two possesions give Lincoln a 3 point lead. With 22 seconds remaining Lincoln would play keepaway and escape with a victory.

Stokes scored a game high 23 points followed by Oloughlin with 14 points. Alvarado knocked down 18 points with Kellman contributing 14 points.
