In the second game of Sunday's B.A.B. Challenge, the Forest Hills Rangers were up against Holy Cross Knights. After a slow start, the team from Flushing, NY displayed a disciplined game and earned respect, taking down Forest Hills, 67-53.
The Rangers tried to surge ahead early off of strong play by Maurice Harkless and Denzel Dullin. The Knight returned fire and surpassed Forests Hills to lead 15-12 at the end of one.
Jaleel Felix extended Holy Cross' lead to five, midway through the second. With 2:56 left in the half, Micheal Ingerson nailed a three from the corner to give the Knights s a 25-17 lead. Forest Hills did not relent and Nicholas Padgett closed the gap to 3 points from the charity stripe as time ran out.
The Knights held on to a 28-25 lead going into the third quarter but Evan Conte extended it with reverse in traffic. Forest Hills came out flat early in the third and with 4:52 found themselves down 37-27. Conte contunued to blow by Rangers defenders at will.
A Harkless 3-ball at the buzzer would cut into the Knights lead as the fourth quarter began. A 43-36 Holy Cross lead would not turn out to be fluffiest cushion as Rudy Collins would cut the lead to three with 7 minutes remaining in the game. Full court pressure by the Rangers would challenge Holy Cross' court awareness.
Bryant Fidele would stave off the advancing Rangers, who had pulled to within 2 points, scoring from the foul line. Markus Hooper soon after swished a three pointer that gave the Knights some space to breathe. With 2:55 in the game, the Knights would be back up 55-47. The Rangers would continue to press for the length of the court but the Knights would break through iwith relative ease to pull out the win and remain undefeated at 3-0.
Conte led Holy Cross with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Felix added 14 points with Hooper and William Davis contibuting 10 apiece. Harkless scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 blocks for the Rangers. Collins contributed 11 points with Padgett adding 10 points.
