New York, NY- Senior Shenneika Smith scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures as they carried the St Johns University women's basketball team to a lopsided 72-46 victory against conference foe Seton Hall Pirates. With the win, the Red Storm improves to 2-0 in the BIG EAST and 8-6 overall with both conference wins coming from New Jersey based teams, having defeated Rutgers last Sunday.

St Johns first year head coach Joe Tartamella on his team's win "I thought we got a complete effort from our team-from our bench from players that may have not seen many minutes but they came in and they were ready today-that was huge." One of those reserve players was junior guard Keylantra Langley (Brigeport, C.T.) who went 1-2 from the three-pointers on the way to a 16-point night, putting together her best scoring game of the season. The red hot shooting of the Red Storm proved to be the difference; shooting 51.9% (28-54) from the field while holding the pirates to a stifling 29.3% (17-58) for the game.

When asked was there a particular number that he felt his team need to score or hold Seton Hall to, Tartamella replied "We go in, we try to play a great defensive game; we have done a good job all year of limiting people and limiting touches of certain people." Holding Seton Hall's leading scorer Brittany Brown below her season average (12.9 pts) to 8 points was part of their good job.

St John's freshman Guard Aliyyah Handford (Newark,N.J.) produce big on her 7th career start, playing a critical role in the Red Storm ability to extend their lead during a four minute 9-0 run towards the end of the first half scoring on a lay-up, assisting on a Brianna Brown 3 pointer, and hitting two free-throws. After the run the Storm would go ahead 33-20 with 2:05 left in the first half, would finish ahead at 40-22 and would never look back for the rest of the game. Seton Hall was led by sophomore guard Ka-Deidre Simmons scoring 14 points. The Red Storm will be back in action at home Wednesday night at 7 PM against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
