CHARACTERS TO AUDITION FOR IN THIS MOVIE
SWAGGER STORY LINE: An examination on what it means to grow up in America, through the lens of AAU basketball.
JACE: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. African-American, male. MUST BE 6’ OR TALLER. Jace, a six-foot-three man-child struggles to deal w/the pressures of being one of the top ranked basketball players in the country. As cocky as he is competitive, Jace has to learn to be a leader in addition to a baller. MUST HAVE INNATE ATHLETIC ABILITY; BASKETBALL A PLUS.
NICK: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. Puerto Rican, male. MUST BE 5’11” OR TALLER. Eye on the prize, even being displaced by Hurricane Maria won’t stop Nick’s drive to be the best basketball player in the country. MUST HAVE INNATE ATHLETIC ABILITY; BASKETBALL A PLUS.
DREW: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. Caucasian, male. MUST BE 5’8” OR TALLER. From a much more affluent part of town, but has no trouble fitting in on the team. The only thing more impressive than his jump shot is his trash talking. MUST HAVE INNATE ATHLETIC ABILITY; BASKETBALL A PLUS.
CRYSTAL JEFFERS: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. African American, female. She is attractive and athletic. One of the top female ball players in the city, she won’t hesitate to play against the boys.
PHIL: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. African American, male. MUST BE 6’ OR TALLER. Phil is the enforcer for a rival team: Hoops For Life. We never quite know if Phil thinks he’s playing football or basketball. His gruff demeanor and quick temper hide a troubled home life. MUST HAVE INNATE ATHLETIC ABILITY; BASKETBALL A PLUS.
ROYALE: 13-16 yrs old TO PLAY 14. African American, male. Plays for the rival team: Hoops For Life. His struggle to fit in is only matched by his struggle to live up to his father’s expectations. No height requirement. MUST HAVE INNATE ATHLETIC ABILITY; BASKETBALL A PLUS.
