I was just checking out the Louisville site and there's a whole lotta Russ Smith bashing going on due to his multi-shot attempts to win that 5 OT loss against Notre Dame. As much bashing as people arre doing, Russ was the only one on the team with the balls to take those last shot. His teammates gave him the ball like it was a hot potato expecting him to take the last shots because they didn't wanna be the goat
Rick Pitino wanted Russ to take the last shot too because other than the point guard who got foul out, Russ has the confidence in his game to put it up and expect to swish.. He was only fronting like he didn't want him too only after he missed and he damn sure didn't take him out the game. Russ has always been fearless, at Molloy in the IS8 and with the Choz. He's a guy you want on your team. Had he won the game Pitino would've hugged him and named his grandson Russ.
If I remember right, when Russ picked Louisville people bashed him saying he'd get no burn cuz he's a 6 ft scoring guard. He became the teams leading scorer and Pitino named his race horse Russiculous he loved Russ so much
Coaches love him even though they scream on him.
If he made one of those shots there would've be a Russfest on the Louisville website giving big-ups on his short term memory and his ice water in his veins to take the last shot after missing the previous shot.
