With three starters benched, a depleted NYCHoops.net #3 ranked Boys & Girls Kangaroos squad faced the unranked Campus Magnet Bulldogs who sought to take advantage. It would end up with Kangaroos getting the upper hand as they would soundly defeat the Bulldogs, 64-43.

Without the services of starters, Mike Taylor, Grady HS transfer Leroy Fludd and point guard Antoine Slaughter, leadership would rest on the shoulders of Leroy Isler (23 points) and Jeffland Neverson (8 points). Early on, Boys & Girls imposed their will on the game as Isler put the Kangaroos up by 4 points with 5:22 left in the first. The Kangaroos would be up 11-zip before Jagger Freeman (11 points) ended the Bulldogs drought.

In the hole by 8 to start the second quarter, a spinning scoop shot by Jerry White (6 points) and a layup by Jamal Mapp (5 points) extended Campus Magnet's deficit to 12 points with 6:13 left in the half. Sasha Clarida (18 points) began to weigh in offensive and while the Bulldogs did not close the gap they at least began to compete. Play became physical as the Kangaroos tried to leave an indelible mark on the Bulldogs phyque. A midrange jumper with attitude by Isler to close the half may have just done that.

A 27-10 gap at the top of the third would be a daunting task for Campus Magnet who possessed limited scoring options. Boys & Girls showed poise and depth as their suppoting cast played major roles in the absense of their starters. A White jumper from the left side increased the Kangaroos lead to 19 points with 4 minute left in the third.

Up 44-26, to start the final quarter, Boys & Girls went even deeper into their bench. The Bulldogs responded and went on a 5-0 run to cut the Kangaroos lead to 15 point with 4 minutes to play. Campus Magnet, to their credit, would not lay down but simply didn't have the weapons to compete which was a lucky break for a less than loaded Boys & Girls team.

After the game, when asked why Taylor, Fludd and Slaughter did not play, Boys & Girls assistant coach Elmer Anderson would only say, "It was a coaching decision." Anderson added that Taylor and Slaughter would not play during upcoming league games against Canarsie and Transit Tech. With regard to Fludd, Anderson said, "As you know, we are waiting on a decision by the PSAL (Public Schools Athletic League) regarding Leroy's eligibility to play."
